Nissan’s New Hyper Force Sports Car Delivers 1,341 Horsepower

Following

Nissan’s vision of the automotive landscape has inspired one new electric concept car every week over the past month. The automaker’s vision reached a 1,341-horsepower climax today when it debuted its Hyper Force concept car at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo.

Merging Nissan’s iconic Skyline GT-R sports car with an advanced electric car powertrain, the Hyper Force looks like the ultimate street machine from the latest Gran Turismo racing simulator. But instead of digital rendering in high-definition 4K video, the Hyper Force is a real car featuring a carbon fiber body wrapped around a 1,000-kW all-wheel-drive electric powertrain.

The carbon fiber body uses aggressive aerodynamics to create downforce, and pairs with a solid-state battery pack to further reduce weight. The Hyper Force’s interior features two carbon fiber seats, a race-car inspired steering wheel, and multiple display screens that change both information and location based on one of two driving modes.

When in “GT” mode the screens reside in a traditional position near the dash, providing information related to climate control, audio system, and suspension settings. When placed in “R” mode the interior lighting switches from blue to red, the screens move closer to the steering wheel for better viewing, and they provide information on tire pressure and temperature, brake rotor temperature, and power distribution between the four wheels.

The Hyper Force represents Nissan’s vision of a capable performance car that is also environmentally friendly. It includes augmented reality and virtual reality technology, letting drivers practice and hone their track skills in a virtual world when the car is parked. It also provides advanced driver assist and safety technology, with LIDAR and similar sensors tuned for both semi-autonomous public road driving and enhanced race track performance.

The Hyper Force follows previous electric concept cars that range from a self-driving minivan to an urban-friendly compact crossover. Nissan’s push to address society’s challenges in the realm of personal transportation is the driving force behind this series of electric concept cars. If the automaker can execute its vision of solid-state battery technology powering a new generation of electric cars it will be a key player in the transition to EVs.
